BBC Radio’s Asian Network sister station was launched in 1988 because the growing South Asian communities in the UK. The Asian Network cares about the Indian subcontinent’s diaspora. The target audience is the younger (under 35) population of the South Asian origins of the Indian subcontinent ( India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Maldives, etc.). The BBC Asian Network has 614.000 weekly listeners in the UK by its analogue and digital broadcasts.
The programme language is primarily English, but occasionally the station provides native language contents in the schedule. The BBC Asian Network playlist consisted of music from the target audience’s cultural line, so even bhangra and bollywood included besides the asian rhythmic contemporary music, and news, live events, conversations connected to the South Asian communities are broadcasted.
BBC Radio Asian Network serves a four hours long morning show on every day of the week. On weekdays, between 6am and 10am Harpz Kaur leads The Asian Network Breakfast show with all-time good vibes, daily motivation, "Quiz With All The Rules!", sometimes with guests, often with comedians discussing various topics. On Fridays Harpz Kaur brings a special "Friday Mix" to her listeners, warming them up to the party-throwing weekend. The Weekend Breakfast Show is lead by Jasmine Takhar from 6am to 10am, on Saturdays with guest DJs, and their mixes, on Sundays with listeners' song requests.

BBC Asian Network has announced the line-up for Asian Network’s Residency, a show that champions the next generation of fresh DJ talent. The strand brings listeners the biggest names in dance music, from the underground to the arena - with Ahadadream, Sandunes, DJ Firestarr and anu forming the Residency team from October 2019. Kicking off with London-based producer and DJ Ahadadream on 6 October, the Asian Network Residency will feature cutting-edge DJs and producers from the UK rotating each week on a Sunday night between 11pm-1am.More >>

Record listening figures for Greg James and Dotty on Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra
Latest Rajar data (Q2 2019, 1 April - 23 June 2019) shows Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra have drawn in more listeners each week. BBC Radio 1 had a weekly reach of 10.56 million listeners aged 10+, an increase from 10.18m last quarter and 10.25m last year. BBC Radio 1Xtra also saw increases this quarter, with 1.17 million weekly listeners (10+) up on 1.13m last quarter and 1.11m last year. RAJAR Q2 2019: London and national brands round-up
Zoe Ball has lost more than three quarters of a million listeners to her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, according to the latest audience research from RAJAR. The show’s reach is down 781,000 quarter-on-quarter to 8.266m for the three months survey period up to the 23rd June 2019. In Q1/19 she had 9.047m listeners; in Q2/2018 Chris Evans reached 9.038m. Zoe Ball joins top earners list at the BBC
New BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Zoe Ball has joined the BBC big earners top 10 list whilst Jeremy Vine took at £110k pay cut. Vanessa Feltz also makes it inside the top 10 list, which this year includes three women for the first time, along with Claudia Winkleman. Chris Evans is still in the list, as it covers the period from April 2018 to March 2019, so will only represent nine months of work. RAJAR Q1 2019 – Zoe & Chris plus national and London radio round-up
Chris Evans and Virgin Radio both reached over a million listeners in the first quarter of 2019. The digital station’s audience has almost trebled compared with the last period of 2018 thanks to the arrival of Evans from Radio 2. BBC to create single role to Control Radio 1 and Radio 2
The BBC is to create a new single role of Controller of its pop music stations Radio 1, 1Xtra, Asian Network, Radio 2 and 6 Music. Heads of each station, plus BBC Music and the Music TV commissioning heads, will report to the new Controller. A source tells RadioToday that Ben Cooper, currently Controller of Radio 1, 1Xtra and BBC Asian Network is expected to be appointed to the new position across all five services.More >>

Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James increases listeners by more than 300,000
The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James has increased listeners by more than 300,000 in his first full quarter. Latest Rajar data shows since Greg James started on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, there has been an increase of listeners aged 10+ to 5.59m (Monday-Thursday), from 5.28m last quarter. RAJAR Q3 2018: London and national brands update
Nick Grimshaw left the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with half a million more listeners than a year ago – handing them to Greg James who took over the show halfway through the last quarter. The show now attracts 5.75m listeners (Mon – Fri) and is up 465,000 Year on Year. In London, Capital is back on top with almost 2,100,000 listeners according to Reach in the London commercial radio battle, as Kiss slips back under the 2m listener mark (1,958,000). Magic is in third place (1.5m) whilst Heart comes in 4th (1.4m). But BBC Radio 4 continues to lead the London Reach with 2.4m listeners.More >>
