About BBC Local Radio

Listen online to the internet radios of BBC Local stations here, on Radio 2 You!
BBC Radio as the public provider of the most popular nation-covered radio broadcasts, operates local and regional radios too, and so ensures locally relevant information sources almost all over the UK. The BBC’s local radios are primarily informative radios with more emphasis on speech related content, news, sports, and with less music.
There are 40 local BBC radios today, their launch happened one after another over the years. The first station of the non-commercial local network was BBC Radio Leicester in 1967, and the last station which became permanent in the network is the BBC Radio Berkshire, started in 1992.
The whole local BBC network has more than 7.4 million weekly listeners in the UK. The playlists of BBC Local radios bring a selection from all-times popular music, but the schedule’s main focus is on the speech related contents. The radios’ programme structures built-up mainly from locally produced contents, and have some shared, and simulcasted programmes in the network.
